Jaunty Summer Hols Reading for Lean thinkers...

Updated: 3 days ago

I've been thinking ahead to summer holiday season.

Here's a picture and list of books that (in my opinion) entertainingly explain and illuminate other people's gembas (far from manufacturing!). There are takeaways for lean people and change agents from all of them.

Hopefully you'll NOT be reading one during an extended stay, in a UK airport, with a severe capacity constraint

About the books:

Jumping ships ๐Ÿ‘‰ amusing adventures on cargo ships

For Fukui's sake ๐Ÿ‘‰ English teacher in rural Japan - fish out of water style

Better ๐Ÿ‘‰US healthcare, Gawande is a clear thinker

Nine Pints ๐Ÿ‘‰ Blood donation and how blood is handled around the world

Mumbai's Dabbawalla ๐Ÿ‘‰ Great, Great book for understanding how to achieve top quality outcomes without spending money - via tiffin box distribution

Tokyo Vice ๐Ÿ‘‰ Tokyo police stories

The Making of Blade Runner ๐Ÿ‘‰ the original movie, how tough it is to make something good

Legacy ๐Ÿ‘‰ Fabulous - how to be/create a high performing culture

Angry White Pyjamas ๐Ÿ‘‰ adventures in Aikido

Kicked, Bitten & Scratched ๐Ÿ‘‰ Training exotic animals

Mudlarking ๐Ÿ‘‰ combing the banks of the river thames for historical artefacts

War Doctor ๐Ÿ‘‰ Tremendous, he spends his holidays flying to war zones to train local surgeons in war surgery

Do No Harm ๐Ÿ‘‰ you won't read a more honest appraisal of a career and mistakes than from this brain surgeon

Unseen ๐Ÿ‘‰ tough read on the worst job in the world - manual scavenging cleaning out dry latrines

The Swordfish & The Star ๐Ÿ‘‰ Cornish fishing stories and wisdom

How I escaped my certain fate ๐Ÿ‘‰ the craft of a controversial comedian

The Nolan Variations ๐Ÿ‘‰ How and Why he makes movies from one of my favourite directors

Enjoy
